1 This lineage may be a composite of those for both an establishment and a named activity with the same designation. References in available documents and histories suggest that a named activity as well as the establishment existed, a common arrangement for training operations at the time. For example, the AAF Pre-Flight School's sister establishment on the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center, was the AAF Classification Center, definitely with a named activity having the same designation. 2 War Department letter, AG 352(11 Jun 45), 14 Jun 45, "discontinued" an AAF Preflight School. Generally consistent usage at the time was to "discontinue" named activities and to either "inactivate" or "disestablish" establishments. This order certainly referred to a named activity [see note above], but officials may also have intended it for the establishment. Research produced no other inactivation order for the establishment. 3 Special Order G-70 rectified ATC's initial failure to organize a headquarters unit when it established OTS in 1959. For thirty years, personnel assignments to the establishment had violated Air Force organizational theory and procedure, which restricted such assignment to units. |
